How to write your story

Writer: strengthintheunquastrengthintheunqua

Hey loves, recently our church had a revival and it was based on how to witness and share your story. I thought that I would share with you how they taught us to write our story and show you my story from it as well! It is split into three sections so I will briefly explain those three sections and then give you and example from my story.

SECTION ONE:

Your life before Christ: Try to include information about your family and about your life and things that shaped your childhood and made you who you are.

My name is Emily and I was born right here in Rocky Mount, North Carolina at the local hospital. For the first 6 years of my life I lived in Nashville, NC but when I was about 5 years old my family moved out of our house and into a trailer where we lived for a few months. After that we moved into our current house now in Elm City. I have two older siblings and we were very close and did everything together. From having snowball fights to building underground forts we were always up to something. All three of us were homeschooled.I played basketball and danced for several years but was never very good at either one.  As a teenager I struggled with my self worth and what my identity was. Because of this I fell into a depression and began searching for something, really anything, that would satisfy. I turned to everything but the one thing I knew would fix me, Jesus.

SECTION TWO:

Your life when you met Christ: Make sure to include the gospel when you tell your story. Because without the gospel you don’t have a story.

At age 6 I walked an isle, said a prayer, and was baptized shortly after but I didn’t understand fully what I was doing. My life didn't change very much and you wouldn't have known I was a Christian. When I was 14 I was at a local church camp talking to a girl and sharing the gospel with her. I explained how Jesus came to earth as a perfect baby, lived a perfect life, and that He died for our sins so that we could experience life. The story didn’t end there because 3 days later Jesus rose from the dead! When He rose he conquered death and now if we choose to believe he is the only way to heaven and accept him as our Lord we will have eternal life with Him in heaven. As i talked to her, I realized that I had never accepted Jesus into my heart and in that moment on the steps of the building we both prayed the prayer of salvation. I didn’t start feeling convicted about needing to be baptized again until about 17 and once I took that step of obedience, Christ took complete control over my life and my life has never been the same since.

SECTION THREE:

Your life after Christ: Make sure to include your life hasn’t always been perfect since but through Christ’s strength you have been able to endure it.

Since the day Christ walked into my life a lot has changed and a lot has happened. I’ve experienced loss, death, failures, and depression but I have never once had to walk alone through it. By clinging to God I have found peace, hope, freedom, renewal, and victory in the one place I didn't want to look. My life isn’t perfect or easy and it never will be. I still struggle with my self worth and who I am but because of the blood of Jesus I am able to walk through it with strength and dignity knowing I am freed and forgiven.

CLOSING THOUGHTS

Okay, so it's super simple and something anyone can do! I encourage you all to try and craft your story and see what God has done in your life. If you need help feel free to email us or message us on social media, we would love to hear from you and help you! Remember it is super easy to be having a conversation with someone and slide your story into it. If someone were to mention depression I could say ‘I understand that, let me tell you my story’. You can easily slip in there and share the gospel without being “forceful”.  The power of your story is nothing without Christ take time and pray over your story as you write it and after you finish. Not only for your story to have His name written all over it but for those who are going to be hearing it to see Him glorified. Have a fantastic week and know that you are being prayed for!
