Set Free

Hey friends,

Galatians 5:1 says:

“For freedom, Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.”

This was the verse of the day on the Bible app today and it quite honestly struck me right where I needed it and right where I happen to be struggling. I had planned to write a post on being single but I decided that this was a more pressing issue and I should share my heart while it was fresh. With that being said, let's dive into God’s word.

For most of us, we see our sin as something “not serious”. We see it like this because you aren’t murdering anyone, or maybe you aren’t sleeping around with five different guys, or maybe that little lie you told isn’t really going to affect anyone. In reality, though the Bible says that ALL sins are equal. Did you hear that? ALL. My pastor says this all the time:

“All means all and that's all all means”.

So whether you told a lie or murdered someone, you are guilty of condemnation. You are no longer perfect and you are not good enough. BUT GOD! But God sent His Son to the earth to save those you aren’t worthy, not only to save them from condemnation but also made us enough to be able to spend eternity with Him.

"Christ has set us free (happy dance)!"

So...this brings me to my point, Christ has set us free (happy dance)! Yay, we are free! We are no longer in bondage, we are no longer enslaved to sin! It's not just a get out of hell free card though, we have to put in some effort and if we’re not putting in the effort in, we’re allowing sin to keep us enslaved. So Christ has saved us, forgiven us, and freed us, yet we are still choosing to say nevermind I’ll stay a slave? HELLO, that’s craziness. We are free so He calls us to STAND FIRM. That implies that there are gonna be times that are really hard and sometimes that you really have to push yourself to say no but it isn’t impossible. So we’ve been set free from sin, we are standing firm, but what are we standing against? The yoke of slavery. Basically, it's saying that you are allowing sin to hold you back because alone you’re not able to break free.

Review Time:

-We are imperfect

-Jesus came to live a perfect life on Earth and die for OUR sin

-When He died, He set us free

-We have to stand firm because sin doesn’t just disappear

-We have the ability to let sin go, so don’t!

My prayer for anyone who reads this, that they will be released from the chains of sin and choose JESUS! Because He is ALL we need. As you go throughout your day, remember when you let that cuss word slip or talk about someone behind their back, you are choosing slavery. XO, Em.
